Lunedì 29 luglio, nella ricorrenza della scomparsa del Maestro Giorgio Gaslini, si terrà la 5° edizione del Premio internazionale Giorgio Gaslini, a Borgo Val di taro, provincia di Parma.
Oltre alla premiazione del vincitore, il cui nome è ancora top secret, ci sarà l’esibizione del vincitore della scorsa edizione, Mathias Hagen, che si presenterà a Borgotaro per la prima volta in formazione a tre con Karoline Wallace (alla voce) e Anders Gleditsch Brevik al pianoforte.
Hagen ha iniziato con la musica in tenera età e ha scoperto il sassofono attraverso la banda musicale locale quando aveva nove anni. Nella sua giovinezza, ha vissuto con la famiglia in Nepal per cinque anni, e durante questo periodo è stato introdotto al jazz frequentando il Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory. Ritornato in Norvegia, ha proseguito la propri formazione presso la Vågsbygd VGS e la Toneheim Folkehøgskole. Ha poi studiato musica allʼIstituto di musica e danza di Stavanger e attualmente sta frequentando un master in performance e composizione allʼAcademy of Music and Drama di Gothenburg, in Svezia. Giovane e talentuoso sassofonista, è riuscito, grazie alla sua capacità compositiva, ad interpretare al meglio la filosofia di “musica totale” delineata dal Maestro Gaslini, aggiudicandosi il Premio Internazionale Giorgio Gaslini 2018.
On Monday July 29th, the death anniversary of Maestro Giorgio Gaslini, the 5th edition of the Giorgio Gaslini International Prize will be held in Borgo Val di taro, province of Parma.
In addition to the awarding of the winner, whose name is still top secret, there will be an exhibition by the winner of last edition, Mathias Hagen. He will present himself in Borgotaro for the first time in a trio with Karoline Wallace, vocals, and Anders Gleditsch Brevik at the piano.
Hagen started with music at an early age and discovered the saxophone through the local marching band when he was nine. In his youth, he lived with his family in Nepal for five years, and during this time he was introduced to jazz by attending the Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory. In Norway, he continued his training at Vågsbygd VGS and Toneheim Folkehøgskole. He then studied music at the Stavanger Institute of Music & Dance and now obtains a master’s in performance and composition at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg, Sweden. Young and talented saxophonist, thanks to his compositional skills, he managed to interpret the philosophy of “total music” outlined by Maestro Gaslini, winning the Giorgio Gaslini 2018 International Award.
Insieme alla cantante Karoline Wallace ed al pianista Anders Gleditsch, come lui norvegesi, saranno eseguite composizioni tratte dallʼultimo progetto di Mathias: Killing the Father. Unʼesplorazione sullʼuso della voce e del testo nella sua musica, elemento chiave su cui vertirà il progetto e il concerto.
